International Partners Commend Puntland and Jubbaland’s Decision to Submit Members to FEIT

Somalia’s international partners have praised the decision by Puntland and Jubbaland to submit members to the Federal Electoral Implementation Team (FEIT).

The partners issued a press release on January 29 on this matter.

In the press statement, they labeled the decision made by the two regional states on January 27 a “positive step.”

“We welcome the nomination of the FEIT for both Puntland and Jubbaland,” the partners said in their statement.

Moreover, the partners believe that the move hastens the country’s ability to implement the pre-elections agreement signed on September 17, 2020.

Puntland and Jubbaland were the only two regional states yet to submit the names of their representatives to the FEIT.

Some of the partners that commended Puntland and Jubbaland include African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), United Nations, United States, and the United Kingdom.

Others were Uganda, Turkey, Switzerland, Sweden, Sudan, Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Netherlands, Norway, Ireland, and Italy.

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Germany, France, European Union, Ethiopia, Egypt, and Finland also signed the statement.
