International partners have expressed delight with the news that Somalia plans to conclude its elections this week.
Somalia has already elected lawmakers to the Senate (Upper House) and the House of the People (Lower House).
The leadership of both chambers of the federal parliament is already in place too.
This week, the East African nation’s legislators from both houses of parliament elect Somalia’s new President.
The presidential elections take place on Sunday, May 15.
International partners issued a press release dated May 10 expressing delight as the nation concludes the lengthy electioneering period.
In their statement, the partners mentioned the “positive progress” Somalia has made in registering candidates for the presidential polls.
Additionally, they said, “there is no more justification for any further delay.”
They called for a swift, peaceful, and credible conclusion to the electoral process.
