International partners released a statement on February 9 welcoming the announcement of dates for upcoming elections in Somaliland.
Recently, authorities in Somaliland announced that the breakaway region would hold local council and parliamentary elections on May 31, 2021.
Partners who signed the statement included United States and the United Kingdom.
Others were Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Netherlands, and Italy.
Ireland, Germany, France, Finland, the European Union (EU), and Denmark also appended their signatures to the statement.
In their statement, the international partners admittedly praised Somaliland for remaining committed to the democratization process.
Furthermore, they hailed the announcement as a major milestone for a country that held the last democratic elections in 2005.
