Internet Services Restored in Somalia after a 4-Day Shutdown

Internet services were restored in many parts of Somalia after a crippling shutdown that lasted four days.

On Tuesday, October 21, Hormud Telecom, the main Internet Service Provider (ISP) in Somalia, said that it had fixed the problem that caused a shutdown in southern and central Somalia.

According to analysts, the four days of shutdown cost the East African nation losses amounting to tens of millions of US dollars.

While announcing resumption of services, Hormud Telecom also took the opportunity to apologize to its customers.

Many Somali businesses were negatively impacted by the shutdown.

Internet cafes that many Somalis rely on for online access were unable to provide the much-needed service either.

Government offices and medical facilities around the country were helpless and unable to operate normally as the shutdown went unsolved for four days.
