Interpeace and ECES Launch a Partnership to Support Democracy in Somalia

Two organizations, the European Center for Electoral Support (ECES) and Interpeace, have launched a partnership drive to support democracy in Somalia.

Essentially, the goal of the partnership is to provide electoral commissions in the Horn of Africa country with all the support to enhance democratization process in the country.

Furthermore, the partnership would not focus on Somalia alone but also take their work to Somaliland, which broke away from Somalia in 1991.

Interpeace has a record of working closely with the National Electoral Commission (NEC) in Somaliland.

It also enjoyed a useful collaboration with the Transitional Puntland Electoral Commission (TPEC) in 2013, which runs to date.

By bringing ECES on board, Interpeace hopes to gleam from the organization’s unique set of expertise for supporting and strengthening democracy in the region.

The two organizations firmly believe that democracy is not merely elections but that it features a whole set of different processes that must work well to achieve great results.
