The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has expressed COVID-19 concerns with the movements taking place along Somalia’s border points.
IOM said that it had recorded 4,715 movements in a six-day period from October 18-24.
Furthermore, the organization mentioned that it interviewed thousands of people on COVID-19 during that period.
Shockingly, close to 44 percent of those who were interviewed confessed that they were unaware of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Consequently, the organization has urged the Federal Government of Somalia (FSG) and other stakeholders to intervene fast.
Otherwise, the lack of awareness about the disease is a huge risk to cross-border movement and trade.
Regionally, governments in the Horn of Africa region have recorded an upsurge in COVID-19 cases; hence, the need to take more proactive measures to curb its spread.
