The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has launched a new hotline service for displaced families in Somalia.
Maria Celeste Sanchez Bean, IOM’s Programme Director, said that Somalia has one of the largest populations of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the world.
Bean said that several factors have created this situation in Somalia.
“Some of these include armed conflicts, political instability, and a climate crisis that causes incessant flooding have created over 2.6 million IDPs in Somalia,” Bean said.
Consequently, IOM Somalia launched a hotline service to provide IDPs with accurate and timely information to help them make decisions.
IOM set up the toll-free emergency hotline to support the incredible work that its support desks already provide.
To benefit from this hotline, users need only dial 460 from their mobile phones. The hotline runs every day from 8am-5.30pm.
