IOM Pays Somalis to Repair Damaged Drainage Culverts in Baidoa

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Somalia has hired a few Somali men and women to repair damaged drainage culverts in Baidoa.

IOM announced that the men and women hired for the work would be paid properly.

The organization announced its decision to hire men and women on Thursday, August 25.

While making the announcement, IOM clarified that its decision was based on the fact that a lack of preparedness for the rains could cause more devastation.

Currently, Somalia is in the midst of one of its worst droughts ever.

It has experienced failed rains for over three consecutive seasons.

However, there have been reports that the East African nation could receive some rainfall in the latter stages of the year.

IOM has hired some men and women to clear the culverts.

Those hired are not only repairing but also replacing damaged drainage culverts in Baidoa to avoid access issues in case the rains come.
