IOM to Build a Site for over 1,000 IDPs in Baidoa

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has announced plans to build a site that holds over 1,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Baidoa.

Baidoa, the capital of the Southwest State, has a large population of IDPs.

The IDPs have been rendered homeless by increased insecurity in the region and the constant floods caused by heavy rainfall this year.

On Monday October 19, IOM announced that its personnel had already cleared roads and bushes in the area for the construction work to commence immediately.

It announced that the next phase of the construction involves installation of latrines.

Latrines are an important aspect of maintaining high hygiene standards, especially at a time when COVID-19 continues to ravage families and livelihoods in the region.

IOM is putting up the site in conjunction with the EU Humanitarian Aid in Central, East and Southern Africa.

The project is also collaboration between the two organizations and the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development arm of the government of the United Kingdom.
