IOM Warns of Disease Outbreak in Somalia from Ongoing Drought

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has warned of the likelihood of an outbreak of diseases from the ongoing drought in Somalia.

Several international organizations have repeatedly stated that drought has put the lives of more than 4.5 million people in Somalia at risk.

They have called for urgent humanitarian assistance from the international community to prevent what has the potential of being one of the worst calamities in history.

On April 6, IOM issued a warning regarding an outbreak of diseases.

Specifically, IOM issued this warning in relation to displacement sites.

The ongoing drought has displaced hundreds of thousands of Somalis from different parts of the country.

With dry rivers being turned into dumping grounds, there are fears that diseases are imminent.
