IPI Condemns Recent Raids by FGS on Somalia Media Houses and Detention of Journalists

The International Press Institute (IPI) has condemned the recent raids by agents working for the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) against TV stations in the country.

On February 11, IPI issued a statement condemning the government’s crackdown on media houses, especially TV stations.

Apparently, the crackdown is designed to intimidate journalists and media stations to stop reporting on elections.

Furthermore, the organization also hit out at the government for sending National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) officers to arrest journalists around the country arbitrarily.

Somalia is notorious for the harsh treatment, frustrations, intimidations, and unlawful arrests it practices against journalist and media stations.
