Irro Heads to Dubai for Global Green Economy Summit

Jargeisa, Sept 25, 2025 — Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi “Irro” departed for the United Arab Emirates on Thursday to participate in the World Green Economy Summit, scheduled for October 1–2 in Dubai.

The annual gathering brings together heads of state, ministers, business leaders, and investors from more than 30 countries to discuss opportunities in green investment, clean technology, and pathways toward sustainable economic growth. This year’s edition is expected to spotlight strategies for accelerating renewable energy adoption, promoting circular economies, and strengthening climate resilience across emerging markets.

President Irro’s attendance underscores Somaliland’s growing interest in positioning itself as a partner in global sustainability initiatives while exploring avenues for foreign investment. The trip also signals the administration’s intent to integrate green development into national economic planning at a time when climate change poses acute risks to the Horn of Africa.

This marks President Irro’s third visit to the UAE since assuming office in December 2024, reflecting the deepening political and economic ties between Hargeisa and Abu Dhabi. The UAE has been a key partner in infrastructure development and trade, and the summit offers Irro a high-level platform to seek stronger collaboration in renewable energy and sustainable urban projects.

Somaliland officials say the visit will also involve sideline meetings with investors and government representatives, aimed at attracting funding for climate-resilient agriculture, solar energy, and water management projects.

The Dubai summit is widely regarded as one of the leading platforms for advancing global green economy agendas, making Irro’s participation both strategic and symbolic for Somaliland’s international engagement.
