Mohamed Hassan Irro, the Chairman of the Federal Electoral Implementation Team (FEIT), led a delegation from the commission to meet the Italian Deputy Ambassador to Somalia.
Irro and the FEIT delegation held the meeting with Massimiliano Bertollo, the Deputy Ambassador of Italy to Somalia, on January 4, 2021.
During their meeting, the FEIT team briefed Ambassador Bertollo on the commission’s preparations for the upcoming elections in the country.
They also briefed the Italian diplomat on the implementation of the agreement signed between Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS).
FGS and FMS signed an electoral agreement on September 17, 2020.
As per the September agreement, the East African nation was scheduled to have held local and parliamentary elections by December 2020.
Unfortunately, the country postponed its parliamentary elections to January 2021 while the presidential polls would be held in February 2021.
