Hargesia, Somaliland – President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Irro on Thursday delivered a detailed account of his recent official visit to Qatar, describing it as a significant advancement in Somaliland’s diplomatic and strategic positioning.
While chairing the 25th session of the Council of Ministers meeting, President Irro emphasized the importance of the five-day visit in deepening bilateral relations with Qatar. He noted that the mission focused on key areas including security cooperation, trade and investment promotion, development assistance, and fostering regional dialogue.
The President revealed that his delegation held nine high-level meetings with senior Qatari government officials and leading national institutions. These discussions, he said, were anchored in mutual respect and a shared commitment to practical collaboration.
President Irro also highlighted his engagements with the Somaliland diaspora in Qatar, praising the active participation of entrepreneurs, intellectuals, and youth leaders. He described their contributions as vital to Somaliland’s ongoing development and global presence.
In his remarks to the cabinet, President Irro stated that the visit marked a milestone in Somaliland’s international engagement. He affirmed that it had strengthened the country’s sovereign posture and elevated its role as a constructive regional partner.
The briefing reaffirmed the government’s strategy of proactive diplomacy and pursuit of mutually beneficial international partnerships.
