Israel is ready to normalize its relations with Somalia.
Eli Cohen, the Israeli Foreign Minister, confirmed his country’s interest in pursuing normal diplomatic relations with Somalia.
Nevertheless, he is likely to face opposition from groups and organizations such as the Israeli National Security Council (INSC).
Tzachi Hanegbi, the Head of INSC, is reportedly against such a move.
Hanegbi added that Israel has no obligation to normalize ties with a country that is among the most economically deprived in the world.
Nevertheless, Cohen believes that normalizing relations with Somalia is great for Israel.
He added that Somalia could prove quite beneficial in voting with Israel on international forums.
This would be a huge departure from the current trend of Somalia voting against Israel.
