Italy’s Ambassador to Somalia, Pier Mario, has indicated that the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is currently assessing the technical readiness of its embassy in Somalia as part of the process to potentially resume issuing visas to Somali passport holders in Mogadishu.
This review is a critical step ahead of a key decision expected in 2025.
During an exclusive interview at the Italian Embassy in Mogadishu, Ambassador Pier Mario expressed optimism about reaching a positive resolution this year.
He referenced a prior temporary suspension of visa services, which was attributed to “technical and organizational reasons,” suggesting that the current review aims to address these challenges and pave the way for a resumption of services.
This development is significant for Somali citizens seeking to travel to Italy, as it signals a potential easing of restrictions and improved diplomatic and consular relations between the two countries.
Further updates are anticipated as the review progresses and the 2025 decision approaches.
