The Deputy Secretary General of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) has commended Federation of Somali Trade Unions (FESTU) for withstanding years of abuse.
Owen Tudor, ITUC’s Deputy Secretary General, made these comments on December 14.
Tudor recognized the amazing work that FESTU continues to offer to workers in Somalia despite facing constant abuse and harassment by authorities.
“FESTU has withstood 9 years of abuse and harassment from authorities in Somalia,”
According to Tudor, that would never have been possible without the members of FESTU standing strong in solidarity.
He mentioned that FESTU officials also faced incredible pressure by spooks from the United Kingdom but never lost sight of their goals and objectives.
Tudor hailed the support that FESTU received from ITUC and the International Labour Organization (ILO) too.
