Japan has donated several solar panels to hospitals and delivery rooms in Somalia to provide them with 24-hour supply.
The Asian nation continues to fund the provision of solar power to Somalia hospitals in conjunction with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
Additionally, two Somaliland delivery facilities are also now equipped with solar power designed to guarantee a steady supply of power.
Arabsio Hospital, a newly built facility in Hargeisa, is set to be one of the beneficiaries of the donation of solar power.
The Hargeisa-based hospital would be catering for 50 patients at a time while serving close to 35,000 people in the region.
A local health center in Caramadaw Village, which is not far from Hargeisa, will also benefit from the solar power.
Solar power would guarantee round-the-clock power supply in delivery rooms across both Somalia and Somaliland.
The solar panels and power are part of a grant worth US$1.2 million from the government of Japan to address socio-economic fallouts arising from the COVID-19 pandemic in Somalia.
