Joint DANAB–AUSSOM Patrol Secures Key Buurfule-Jowhar Route

In a coordinated effort to strengthen regional stability and protect civilians, the Somali National Army’s elite DANAB special forces and troops from the African Union’s new AUSSOM mission conducted a joint security patrol along the Buurfule-Jowhar route. This strategic road links several key communities in the Middle Shabelle region and has been vulnerable to insurgent threats and ambushes in recent months.

The patrol aimed to assess the current security situation, deter potential threats, and reassure local residents of ongoing efforts to maintain peace and safety. During the operation, troops engaged with community members, monitored critical checkpoints, and collected intelligence on possible militant activity.

This joint operation highlights the growing cooperation between Somali forces and international partners under the AUSSOM framework, which replaced the  ATMIS mission earlier this year, and seeks to support Somalia in taking full responsibility for national security. The presence of DANAB and AUSSOM forces on the ground signals a proactive stance against terrorism and underscores the government’s commitment to securing liberated areas and protecting civilians.
