On Monday, the United States military, in a joint operation with Somali National Army, killed an Al-Shabaab terrorist. Two other Al-Shabaab terrorists suffered various injuries.
The airstrike took place in Qunyo Barrow, southern Somalia.
AFRICOM issued a statement in the aftermath of the two airstrikes. It said, “We are focused on supporting the Federal Government of Somalia to end the brutality of Al-Shabaab.”
Its statement went further to clarify that Al-Shabaab had mistreated Somalis for years. AFRICOM said it would continue working closely with the FGS to strike Al-Shabaab’s leadership.
Al-Shabaab fighters are also targets for AFRICOM. Its facilities around the country and the extremist group’s areas of operation are also subject to attack by AFRICOM.
AFRICOM’s initial assessment of the airstrike shows there were no civilian casualties.
The United States Africa Command says it will continue targeting Al-Shabaab as long as the militia outfit does not cease attacking East Africa, Americans, and American interests globally.
