Journalist Oldon Released from Somaliland Prison

Abdimalik Muse Oldon, a Somali journalist who has been in a Somaliland prison for the last one year, has been released.

Somaliland authorities released Oldon from prison earlier today.

The journalist, who also doubles up as a social media activist, was arrested on April 17, 2019 in Burao in Northern Somaliland.

Since then, dozens of politicians, international organizations, journalists, and professional bodies representing and fighting for the welfare of journalists have demanded his release.

On July 8, 2019, the Marodi Jeh Court sentenced him to a jail term of three-and-a-half years, which he was to serve in a Hargeisa prison.

Oldon is now free courtesy of a Presidential Pardon issued by the office of Somaliland’s President Muse Bihi Abdi.
