A group of journalists took their dissatisfaction with the manner of Abdiaziz Ahmed Gurbiye’s arrest to the streets where they staged a protest demanding his immediate release.
The journalists organized the demonstration to voice their displeasure with the government’s decision to arrest and detain Gurbiye, who is the Editor at Goobjoob Media Group (GMG).
They termed Gurbiye’s arrest and detention “unreasonable” and “unlawful” saying the law that the government relied on is “outdated” and “irrelevant.”
Members of Federation of Somali Journalists (FESOJ) and Somali Congress of Trade Union (SOCOTU) participated in the street protests.
Police arrested Gurbiye on April 14, 2020 after summoning him to a local police station following directives from President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo.
