Journalists Trained Ahead of Benadir Local Elections

Mogadishu, Somalia – Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan, Chairman of the National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC), officially launched a specialized training workshop in Mogadishu today for nearly 90 Somali journalists. The program is designed to improve media conduct and ensure ethical reporting standards during the critical election period.

In strategic collaboration with the National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ), the training seeks to equip media professionals with essential tools for objective and responsible reporting.

Omar Faruk Osman, Secretary General of NUSOJ and a member of the Media Conduct Committee for elections, delivered a keynote address emphasizing the importance of the initiative. He pledged that Somali journalists are committed to covering the upcoming elections in the Benadir region with integrity, accuracy, and impartiality.

In his address to the participants, the NIEBC Chairman reminded media professionals of their vital responsibility in maintaining high ethical standards on election day. He assured attendees that the electoral commission is fully prepared to facilitate their work and support them in fulfilling their professional duties effectively to ensure the public is well-informed.

The primary objective of this workshop is to ensure that the participating journalists, all of whom are tasked with covering the local council elections, scheduled for December 25 in the Benadir region, possess the necessary knowledge and skills to maintain professional conduct. This initiative is a key component of the broader effort to ensure a transparent, credible, and peaceful electoral process in the capital.
