Jubaland Officials Trained by AU to Combat Recruitment of Child Soldiers

African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) trained officials from Jubaland to combat recruitment of child soldiers.

AMISOM’s Protection Human Rights and Gender (PHRG) cluster carried out the training of trainers’ course.

The five-day training equipped the officials to prevent and respond to the recruitment of children as soldiers during armed conflicts.

More than 25 social workers attended the training.

Members of child protection committee from Dalxis IDP camp, Alanley, Gulwade, Fanole, and Farjano attended the training too.

Gloria Jaase, a lead facilitator and AMISOM’s Protection Officer, spoke candidly about the importance of the training.

In Jaase’s view, the training is critical to the creation of awareness on this troubling issue.

She also reiterated the importance of the training in building response mechanisms for the protection of children and prevention of recruitment of child soldiers.
