Jubbaland and Puntland Appoint Poll Commissions’ Representatives

Jubbaland and Puntland have finally formed their regional elections commissions after sustained foreign and domestic pressure.

The two regional states appointed their representatives to the Federal Electoral Implementation Team (FEIT) on January 28.

Furthermore, they encouraged the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) to convene a meeting with Federal Member States (FMS) to discuss issues pertaining to the nation.

Jubbaland and Puntland both submitted the names of their two respective representatives to the federal polls body.

The representatives were appointed after a period of sustained pressure from the international partners led by James Swan, the United Nations Special Representative to Somalia.

With the appointment of the representatives from Jubbaland and Puntland, the FEIT is now complete.

Consequently, Jubbaland and Puntland are now likely to join other regional states in holding parliamentary elections, which are already behind schedule.
