Jubbaland, Somalia – Jubbaland State of Somalia has launched the construction of a state-of-the-art headquarters for its Ministry of Interior, a project that underscores growing efforts to strengthen governance and institutional capacity in the region.
The initiative is being supported by Norway, through its embassy in Somalia, and Switzerland, via its Nairobi-based mission, both of which have been long-standing partners in Somalia’s stabilization and peacebuilding agenda.
The new headquarters will serve as a central hub for administrative functions, security coordination, and citizen services. The project is expected to streamline government operations and improve service delivery in line with the state’s broader governance reforms.
The facility, once completed, will house advanced office spaces, digital monitoring systems, and dedicated areas for public engagement. It is also designed to meet international standards of accessibility and efficiency, reflecting a push to modernize Somalia’s public institutions after decades of conflict and underinvestment.
Norwegian and Swiss representatives emphasized that the project aligns with their commitment to supporting federal member states in Somalia as they work to consolidate peace and build inclusive governance.
The groundbreaking comes at a critical time, with Jubbaland facing persistent security challenges posed by Al-Shabaab, while simultaneously navigating federal-state political tensions. Strengthening local governance structures is expected to contribute to both stability and resilience.
Construction of the headquarters is already underway in Kismayo, with completion expected in the coming months. The project is being closely monitored to ensure transparency and accountability in line with donor requirements.
This development marks a tangible step forward in Jubbaland’s institutional strengthening and highlights the importance of international partnerships in Somalia’s state-building process.
