Jubbaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam Madobe has expressed support for a unified national approach to counterterrorism and democratic governance in Somalia.
Following Eid prayers in Kismayo, President Madobe emphasized the importance of strengthening national security forces rather than arming local militias against Al-Shabaab militants.
This stance aligns with his previous calls for collective efforts among Somali regions to combat extremism.
In January 2025, he praised Puntland’s military operations against the Daesh terrorist group, highlighting the significance of regional collaboration in ensuring national security.
However, relations between President Madobe and the federal government have experienced tensions.
In October 2024, he walked out of a National Consultative Council meeting in Mogadishu due to disagreements over the agenda, particularly concerning the implementation of the “one-person, one-vote” electoral system and security strategies against Al-Shabaab.
Despite these challenges, President Madobe’s recent endorsement of national dialogue initiatives suggests a potential for improved cooperation between regional and federal authorities in addressing Somalia’s security and governance issues.
