Ahmed Islam Madobe, the President of Jubbaland, one of Somalia’s semiautonomous states, has arrived in Garowe for the Heritage Institute for Policy Studies (HIPS) annual forum.
HIPS organized its annual forum in Somalia for the first time ever.
On December 28, the plane carrying President Madobe landed at the Garowe Airport.
President Said Abdullahi Deni of Puntland was at the airport to welcome Madobe and other dignitaries to the region for the forum.
The HIPS forum is designed to discuss ideas for enabling Somalia to make a seamless transition in 2025 towards one-person-one-vote (1P1V) elections.
It takes place at a time when the country is in the middle of an intense electioneering period.
