Jubbaland Unveils Modern Airport Facilities in Kismayo

Kismayo, Jubbaland – President Ahmed Mohamed Islam Madobe of Jubbaland State inaugurated newly constructed facilities at Sayid Mohamed Abdulle Hassan Airport in Kismayo, marking a major milestone in improving the region’s transport and trade infrastructure. The project, supported by the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) through the PREMIS II program, includes a new customs office, upgraded passenger service areas, and expanded operational spaces designed to enhance efficiency and passenger experience.

The new facilities are expected to strengthen Kismayo’s role as a vital economic hub in southern Somalia, facilitating smoother customs processes and promoting regional trade. The modernization project also aligns with Jubbaland’s broader vision to improve public infrastructure, attract investment, and create jobs, particularly within the logistics and tourism sectors.

Speaking during the inauguration, President Madobe underscored the airport’s importance in linking Jubbaland to the rest of Somalia and the wider region, noting that such developments symbolize growing stability and progress. The enhancements will also improve the government’s capacity to manage imports and exports, a critical step in advancing local revenue collection and governance.

The FCDO-funded PREMIS II initiative continues to support state-level institutions in Somalia in strengthening governance and infrastructure. The newly inaugurated facilities in Kismayo reflect ongoing international and domestic efforts to rebuild Somalia’s key economic corridors and bolster local development through sustainable partnerships.
