Nairobi – Jubbaland State is in mourning following the death of its Second Vice President, Abdikadir Haji Mohamud, who passed away in Nairobi on Saturday after a prolonged illness.
A highly respected statesman and peace advocate, Abdikadir was widely known for his pivotal role in reconciliation efforts within the federal member state of Jubbaland.
Throughout his political career, he championed dialogue, unity, and inclusive development—often working behind the scenes to bridge tribal and political divides in the volatile southern region of Somalia.
In an emotional tribute, Jubbaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam Madobe described Abdikadir as “a hero whose legacy of reconciliation and dedication to the people’s welfare will inspire generations to come.”
He added that the late Vice President had played a central role in strengthening the state’s institutions and promoting peace during some of its most challenging years.
Somali leaders, civil society organizations, and citizens across Jubbaland have expressed deep sorrow at the passing of a man many viewed as a unifier.
Social media platforms were flooded with condolence messages and tributes, with many praising his humility, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to justice.
The Somali federal government is expected to issue an official statement and coordinate with Jubbaland authorities regarding funeral arrangements.
Local media reports indicate that his body will be transported to Kismayo, the administrative capital of Jubbaland, for burial.
Mohamud’s passing leaves a significant void in Somali politics, particularly in Jubbaland, where his leadership and moral compass helped shape the region’s political stability.
