Jubbaland’s Ministry of Finance launched a new Customs Declaration System on Thursday, November 5.
The finance ministry launched the system, which is known as Somali Single Administrative Document (SOMSAD), in Kismayo.
Jubbaland authorities launched the system in conjunction with the European Union (EU).
The system is designed to improve efficiency in importing and exporting goods.
In late October, the Ministry of Finance of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) announced plans to eradicate corruption in its operations.
At the time, Dr. Abdirahman Beileh, the Minister of Finance, said that the government has been losing a lot of revenue at the finance offices and the customs department.
With the new SOMSAD system in place, Jubbaland is bound to enjoy improved revenue collection.
