Mogadishu, Somalia – The Federal Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Hassan Moalim Mohamud, toured Dayniile district on Friday to intensify the government’s campaign to mobilize voters for the upcoming local council elections.
The visit aimed to evaluate the district’s preparedness for the polls while engaging directly with community members. The minister’s presence in Dayniile is part of a broader administrative effort to ensure universal suffrage reaches every neighborhood in the capital.
During interactions with local residents and community leaders, the justice minister issued an urgent call regarding voting logistics. He emphasized that all eligible citizens in Dayniile must obtain their voter cards before the critical December 25th deadline.
The minister stressed that possession of the card is the only pathway for citizens to exercise their constitutional rights. He framed voting not merely as a procedure, but as the reclaiming of agency absent from Somalia’s political landscape for decades.
Addressing the broader significance, the minister described the shift to a “One Person, One Vote” system as a historic milestone in Somalia’s state-building journey.
“Restoring power to the people is a historic step toward building a transparent political system,” the Minister stated.
He argued that the elections form the bedrock of governance reforms, fundamentally shifting accountability from selected elites back to the public.
The Minister reiterated that the “DanQaran” administration remains committed to returning political power to its rightful owners the Somali citizens. He noted that the push for direct elections fulfills the government’s promise to enfranchise the population and establish a governance system truly representative of the people’s will.
By visiting Dayniile, the Ministry of Justice plans to ensure the legal and constitutional right to vote is understood and exercised by all, thereby solidifying the legitimacy of upcoming municipal councils.
