Justice Minister Encourages Dayniile Residents to Register for Historic Local Elections

Mogadishu, Somalia – Justice and Constitutional Affairs minister Hassan Moalim Mohamud visited Dayniile district on Friday as the federal government increased efforts to prepare Mogadishu residents for the city’s inaugural direct local council elections.

The minister’s visit concentrated on assessing the district’s logistical preparedness and encouraging citizens to participate in the electoral process. His initiative forms part of a wider campaign by the administration to ensure that the transition to universal suffrage extends throughout all areas of the capital.

Speaking to community members and local leaders, the minister provided a clear directive: eligible voters must acquire their voter cards prior to the December 25 cutoff date. He emphasized that the card serves as the sole legal mechanism for citizens to exercise their constitutional right to vote.

The minister characterized the impending transition to a “One Person, One Vote” system as a pivotal juncture in Somalia’s political restoration, stating it signifies the restoration of authority to ordinary citizens following decades of indirect selection procedures.

“Returning power to the populace represents a monumental stride toward establishing a transparent political framework,” he stated, highlighting that direct elections constitute the foundation of Somalia’s governance reforms by transferring accountability from elites back to the electorate.

Mohamu reiterated that the DanQaran administration remains dedicated to expanding political engagement and guaranteeing that local councils mirror the public’s preferences. His visit to Dayniile, he mentioned, was designed to reinforce both the legal entitlement and civic duty of every resident to engage in the electoral process.

The administration anticipates that robust voter registration and participation will enhance the credibility of the forthcoming municipal councils and advance Somalia’s continuous progression toward democratic governance.
