Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) has killed 12 Al-Shabaab fighters in Boni Forest, Lamu County. On Friday, its troops attacked the hideout that the militants in the forest.
The killing happened a few months after the unprecedented attack that Al-Shabaab conducted on Manda Bay Airfield in Lamu.
Al-Shabaab attacked the US Naval Base on January 5, 2020 thereby displaying Kenya’s lack of preparedness to tackle the extremist group.
The Al-Qaeda linked group has carried out several attacks in Somalia and the Horn of Africa region. It has contributed to the worsening security situation in the region too.
The Thursday attack was the result of an aggressive operation that KDF has conducted against the militia in the last three years.
