Kenya Awarded $66 Million for KDF’s Involvement in Somalia

Kenya has been awarded $66 million for its participation in the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).

The funds were based on the expenses that the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) incurred in the 2022/23 financial year.

The funds were the second-highest that KDF received since joining the ATMIS troops in 2012.

In the 2020/21 financial year, KDF was reimbursed $89.4 million, which is the highest amount it has ever received for its incursions in Somalia.

KDF has thus far received roughly $590 million from the African Union (AU) in the last 11 years.
