Kenya Demands End to Hostilities along Border with Somalia

Kenya has called for an immediate end to the hostilities that have risen up in a town along its border with Somalia.

Baled Hawo, a town located along Somalia’s border with Kenya, went up in smoke as intense gunfight ensued for the better part of January 24.

The Sunday clashes involved Somali National Army (SNA) troops and Jubbaland regional forces.

Yesterday’s clashes led to the deaths of at least 11 people in the border town.

A report from Baled Hawo Hospital confirmed the number of fatalities while stating that tens of others were injured in the skirmishes.

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs refuted Somalia’s claims that Kenya continues to support the Jubbaland forces through the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF).

Baled Hawo is in Gedo, a region that has been at the center of heated diplomatic exchanges between Kenya and Somalia.
