Kenya Denies Reports Al-Shabaab Controls Mandera County

The Kenyan government has denied last week’s media reports that Mandera County is under the control of Al-Shabaab extremists.

The North Eastern Regional Commissioner, Nicodemus Musyoki Ndalana, denied the reports that were attributed to Governor Ali Roba of Mandera County.

According to Ndalana, the government of Kenya has invested heavily in upgrading Mandera County’s security infrastructure progressively.

He also confirmed that the government deployed tons of security personnel in the region to ensure that extremists do not overpower local security officers.

Ndalana also said that Al-Shabaab is not only a security threat in Mandera County but also other counties and regions in northeastern Kenya.
