Kenya Fails in Attempts to Drill Oil in Area Claimed by Somalia

Kenya has failed in its attempts to drill oil in an area in the Indian Ocean that is considered part of Somalia.

For years, Kenya and Somalia have fought over that area.

A year ago, the dispute saw Somalia sue Kenya at the United Nations court.

The international court then ruled in favor of Somalia to the chagrin of the Kenyan government.

Kenya had been drilling for oil at what is known as Block L11B within the Lamu Basin. Its surveys indicate that the block is dry.

This piece of news has forced Kenya to abandon its 10-year search for oil along this coastline.

According to the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), the project ended mid this year when ENI Kenya Business Venture (BV) folded it up and left.

ENI Kenya Business Venture was formerly known as Agip.
