Kenya received up to US$51 million from the European Union (EU) for sending its troops to Somalia to fight Al-Shabaab militants.
The Kenyan government received the funds between April and June 2021.
The amount was a substantial increase on the disbursements it received from the EU and other international partners in the previous quarters of the 2020/21 financial year.
In a similar period during the last financial year (2019/20), the funds were $42 million.
Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) is part of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) troops fighting militants in Somalia.
These revelations were contained in the latest report from the Ministry of Finance (Treasury) in Nairobi.
