Kenyan Minister Mentioned in Jubbaland’s Fugitive Row

A fugitive Jubbaland minister is in Kenya’s Mandera County. That is according to the Mandera East MP, Omar Maalim. He has requested the national government to explain the circumstances that led to the presence of the minister.

MP Omar says the presence of the fugitive is likely to worsen security situation in the county. He made this statement in parliament on Wednesday. He would like Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Defense to explain what Abdirashid Hassan Abdinur is doing in the country.

Abdinur, who also goes by the alias of Abdirashid Janan, has been in the county for a while now. According to MP Omar, Abdinur crossed into the country with an army made up of more than 100 soldiers, who are armed and seemingly ready for war.

Abdinur was first sighted in the county on January 30, 2020. Kenyan security teams then booked him into a local hotel in Mandera. On February 10, he then moved out of the hotel into a rented house where he has operated from since then.

Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) and Jubbaland Forces have kept a close eye on Abdinur and his soldiers. The area MP says Abdinur is now in Border Point 1, which is within his constituency; hence, his cause for concern.
