Reports from reliable sources indicate that a Kenyan plane carrying khat to Somalia has been forced to make a U-turn.
Authorities forced the plane to return to Kenya on Friday afternoon.
The latest development follows reports that planes have been flying into and out of Somalia under the guise of transporting COVID-19 supplies and foodstuff.
Five months ago, the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) closed the country’s airspace and banned international flights over COVID-19 fears.
However, planes from Kenya and other neighboring countries seem to have found a loophole that allows them to bypass the COVID-19 restrictions.
Nevertheless, the government seems to have taken the first step to blocking the illegal trade in khat.
