Farah Maalim, a Kenyan politician with Somali roots, has urged the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) to protect the country’s sovereignty.
On February 6, Maalim hit at the international community and other “interested profiteer countries” for disrespecting Somalia’s sovereignty.
Maalim, a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Lagdera Constituency in Garissa County, urged the federal government not to give in to the demands of the international community.
He also sent the same message to the House of Representatives (Lower House) and Senate (Upper House).
Specifically, Maalim, a former Deputy Speaker of the Kenya National Assembly, asked Donald Yamamoto, the United States Ambassador to Somalia, to respect the country’s institutions.
Maalim reminded James Swan, the United Nations Special Envoy to Somalia, that the East African nation has functioning systems and institutions that should be respected.
He said that Yamamoto and Swan were neither “Viceroys nor Governor Generals.”
