President Dr. William Samoei Ruto of Kenya has thrown his weight behind the ongoing onslaught against Al-Shabaab militants in Somalia.
The Kenyan President said he supports the onslaught by the Somali government against the Al-Shabaab terrorists.
He was speaking in an interview with Al Jazeera conducted on the sidelines of the 77th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
In the interview, which took place on Saturday, President Ruto said that Kenya has been paying a heavy price for its military intervention in Somalia.
Kenyan forces are part of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
President Ruto commended the efforts of Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud against the terrorists.
The Kenyan leader added that it is in the region’s best economic and security interest to ensure that Somalia works and remains safe for everyone.
