Kenyan Somalis Occupy 4.3 Percent of Plum Jobs in the Civil Service

A report released by Kenya’s Ministry of Public Service indicates that Kenyan Somalis occupy 4.3 percent of all top jobs in the country’s civil service.

Margaret Kobia, the minister in charge of the docket, issued the report showing that Somalis are among the top 10 communities that take up most of the senior positions in government.

The country has over 40 ethnic communities.

Kenyan Somalis have taken up 17 out of the 416 top civil service jobs.

Over 200 jobs have been taken by the three largest communities in the country; that is, Kikuyus, Kalenjins, and Luhyas.

Kobia handed over this report to the Senate on Thursday, September 3.

While receiving the report, Senators questioned the minister on the rationale used to distribute jobs among different communities.
