Kenya’s miraa exports to Somalia for the past three months have surpassed Kshs. 4 billion.
The latest reports indicate that Kenya has exported tons of miraa to Somalia for the last three months.
Kenya resumed the export of miraa to Somalia in July this year.
The resumption of the trade followed a meeting between President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia and the then-President of Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta.
Felix Mutwiri, the Head of the Miraa Pyrethrum and Other Industrial Crops, confirmed the figures on October 20.
Mutwiri stated that Kenya has thus far exported 1.4 million kilograms of the crop to Somalia since July.
Currently, a kilo of miraa goes for $23, which translates to Kshs. 2,760.
