Kenya has seen its miraa exports to neighboring Somalia more than double to reach 50 tons per day.
Felix Mutwiri, the head of the Miraa Pyrethrum and Other Industrial Crops, confirmed that miraa trade between Kenya and Somalia has doubled in the last seven months.
Somalia had banned trade in miraa from Kenya in 2020 before lifting the ban in July 2022.
Initially, Somalia capped miraa imports from Kenya at 19 tons per day.
However, the cap has been removed and now Kenya exports 50 tons of the product to its neighboring nation.
Currently, a kilogram of miraa from Kenya costs $23 in Somalia.
