Kenya’s National Security Council (NSC), sitting under the leadership of President Uhuru Kenyatta, has said that Somalia breached its territorial integrity.
Residents of Mandera Town were harassed while their properties were destroyed as Somali National Army and the forces loyal to Jubaland’s fugitive minister clashed.
The clashes lasted the whole day on Monday. It led to the disruption of business and other normal activities.
Apart from the President, other members of NSC include the Deputy President William Ruto and Defense Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma.
Raychelle Omamo, the CS for Foreign Affairs and Interior Minister Fred Matiang’i also serve as members of NSC. The Attorney General Kiahara Kariuki among others is a member too.
The nine-member committee was shocked that Somali forces breached the border town. They lauded Kenya’s security forces for acting in complete restraint to avoid escalating the situation.
During its Wednesday meeting, the committee also dismissed claims by Mogadishu that Kenya has been interfering with Somali’s internal affairs.
