Somaliland’s ruling party, Kulmiye Party, has postponed the fourth convention that was due early June 2020 over COVID-19.
With the country currently reeling under the impact of the novel Coronavirus, Kulmiye’s leadership opted to cancel the upcoming convention until later.
Ahmed Ali Dheere, the Second Deputy Chairman of Kulmiye Party, confirmed the news early on Sunday during a press conference.
He said that the party’s Executive Council and Central Committee has postponed the convention until further notice.
Furthermore, Ahmed rejected claims that the party is facing intense conflicts, which forced leaders to cancel the convention.
He insisted that the postponement is purely because of COVID-19 and nothing more.
Ahmed reminded journalists that the government had banned all public gatherings and as such, they would be violating these directives if they proceed with the convention.
