Lack of Donor Funding Creating Humanitarian Crisis in Somalia, UN Warns

The United Nations has warned that Somalia could struggle with one of the worst humanitarian crisis as donor funding shrinks.

A report by UN agencies in Somalia portrays a worrying picture in the East African nation.

According to the UN, millions of Somalis could sink deeper into starvation if donor funds fail to arrive on time to preventing a worsening humanitarian crisis.

Adam Abdelmoula, the UN Head of Humanitarian Affairs for Somalia, made this revelation on August 19 while celebrating this year’s World Humanitarian Day.

“The Humanitarian Response Plan is 40 percent funded despite the growing needs in Somalia,” Abdelmoula said.

The UN Head of Humanitarian Affairs stated that 5.9 million are at risk of a devastating humanitarian crisis if donors fail to act.
