Laftagareen Arrives in Mogadishu Ahead of NCC Summit

Somalia’s South West State President, Abdiaziz Laftagareen, is set to arrive in Mogadishu on Friday with a significant delegation to participate in the National Consultation Council (NCC) summit.

The forum, scheduled for Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Villa Somalia, aims to foster dialogue and collaboration on national issues, including the model for upcoming national and regional elections.

There is, however, some uncertainty regarding the attendance of President Ahmed Madobe of Jubbaland.

He recently walked out of previous talks due to disagreements over the election model.

This disagreement reflects broader tensions around electoral processes and governance in Somalia, as various political leaders advocate for models they believe will best serve their constituencies.

The forum will be crucial in determining if consensus can be reached to move forward with a unified approach.
